With network storage becoming increasingly popular among geeks and consumers alike, the constant desire for more storage therefore isn’t a shocker by any means. Western Digital acknowledges this and has released an 8TB version of its My Book Live Duo systems.
My Book Duo is compatible with Mac and PC and supports configurations in 4TB, 6TB or the all-new 8TB. Each enclosure supports up to two HDDs that work in tandem for maximum stability. Each file is copied across both drives just in case one of them fails. Insiders also refer to this mechanism as RAID1.
Western Digital says you can store about 1.600.000 photos, 615 hours of video or 2.000.000 songs on the 8TB hard drive. Your media and content will then be accessible on all kinds of devices, from the obvious (notebook, PC) to the new (iPhone, iPad, Android). Mind you the latter require a separately available app that’s completely free of charge.
Western Digital’s My Book Live Duo is available in 4TB, 6TB and 8TB sizes for $375, $440 or $660 respectively.
